Self-Awareness (EQ) is the first component of emotional intelligence and it is the ability to recognize and understand your moods, emotions, and drives as well as knowing your effect on others.
Self-aware people are not overly critical or unrealistically hopeful. They are are optimistic, and they rather celebrate their mistakes by learning from them.
Also, they understand their values and goals by knowing where they are headed and why. For example, a person will turn down a highly potential job, but turn it down because the company’s job doesn’t meet their principles. These people understand what they have to do for themselves as well as knowing how it will affect others.
